Company Profile
Plains All American Pipeline, L.P. is a publicly traded master limited partnership (“MLP”) engaged in the transportation, storage, terminalling and marketing of crude oil, refined products and LPG. Through their 50% ownership in PAA/Vulcan Gas Storage LLC, they also engage in the development and operation of natural gas storage facilities.
They own and operate a diversified portfolio of strategically located assets that play a vital role in the movement of U.S. and Canadian energy supplies. On average we handle over 3 million barrels per day of crude oil, refined products and LPG through our extensive network of assets located in key North American producing basins and transportation gateways. We are headquartered in Houston, Texas, and our common units are traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "PAA."
Environmental, Health & Safety
Plains All American Pipeline and its affiliated limited partnerships adhere to high standards of environmental quality and are committed to providing a workplace that protects the health and safety of our employees and the communities surrounding our facilities. In order to achieve this objective, Plains All American Pipeline strives to have the environment, health & safety fully integrated into its business planning and decision making process. We believe this will enhance and promote the protection of our employees, human health and the environment while increasing value for our stakeholders.
It is the policy of the partnership that:
- All operations be conducted in compliance with all applicable EH&S laws, rules and regulations;
- Appropriate design, construction, operation and waste management standards be implemented to protect human health and the environment;
- Employees be trained and empowered to recognize individual responsibility and accountability for EH&S activities related to their job performance; and
- Programs are implemented for self-monitoring, site security, accident investigation and emergency preparedness.
Plains All American Pipeline's employee health and safety programs have had outstanding results and received industry recognition due to the low number of work-related accidents and/or injuries. Over the last four years, which was a period of significant corporate growth, Plains All American Pipeline's OSHA recordable incident/accident rate has been consistently better than the average of the overall pipeline industry. In fact, our OSHA recordable incident rate has consistently been rated in the upper quartile for the liquids pipeline industry.
Our Environmental, Health and Safety program is successful because it is developed, supported and carried out by our employees, from the senior management team down to the newest hire. At Plains All American Pipeline, our commitment to EH&S excellence goes beyond just operating our facilities in a responsible manner, but reflects the vision and dedication shared by our management team and our employees who operate our facilities on a daily basis.
Plains All American Pipeline’s Use of ISNetworld
Plains All American Pipeline became a member of ISNetworld in March 2002. For the first 6 years, Plains All American Pipeline only used ISNetworld to track their employee and contractor Operator Qualifications (OQ). In February 2008, they decided to expand their use of ISNetworld to include health, safety and procurement as a part of their contractor management process. Plains All American Pipeline places a high value on their commitment to safety; therefore, they have made it a requirement for all of their contractors to subscribe to ISNetworld. The transition from Plains All American Pipeline’s previous contractor management process to their use of ISNetworld has been successful due to clear internal communication and strong upper management support. Plains All American Pipeline’s ISNetworld requirements include the MSQ, Operator Qualifications, and Review and Verification Services (RAVS) of contractor’s safety programs, training documentation, and insurance certificate.
