Company Profile

Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) is a global biopharmaceutical and related health care products company whose mission is to extend and enhance human life. Since 2002, BMS has introduced nine new medicines that have helped millions of people around the world fight diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, rheumatoid arthritis, hepatitis B and psychiatric disorders. To further reach their goal of extending and enhancing human life, BMS has a 7,000 employee Research & Development organization developing innovative and cost-effective medicines.

BMS works hard to increase patient access to medicines through public and private partnerships. They achieve this through a $150 million HIV/AIDS program in Africa and through their Patient Assistance Foundation. During 2007, the foundation assisted an estimated 274,000 patients with free medications.

BMS is headquartered in New York, New York, however, you can find them located in almost every country of the world. They also own Mead Johnson Nutritionals. You can find them on the New York Stock Exchange as BMY.

Health and Safety Practices

Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) policy reflects the promise of their pledge and mission to extend and enhance human life.  They have already met their ambitious goals that were set in 2000.  These goals involved safety improvements, EHS management systems, and the conservation of biologically diverse land.

BMS’s Sustainability 2010 goals aim to advance business while contributing to a better world.  These goals fit into three broad classifications which contain specific leadership objectives: Continuous improvement, Leadership expectations, and Environmental stewardship.  To make the 2010 goals a reality, BMS will revise their EHS Codes of Practice. These revisions will explain our vision of sustainability in clear operational terms and drive performance improvements throughout our operations.

Bristol-Myers Squibb’s Use of ISNetworld

Bristol-Myers Squibb became a member of ISNetworld in December 2007. Their New Jersey and Connecticut sites were the first to implement the ISNetworld requirement. BMS’s implementation has been successful thus far due to a consequence phase for contractors within the first 6 months and strong support from BMS leadership. They plan to rollout globally within a year.

BMS’s requirements include the SCQ-V (Standardized Contractor Questionnaire Verified), Review and Verification Services (RAVS) of contractor’s safety programs and insurance certificate, and upload of OSHA logs, EMR certificates, and Master Service Agreements. BMS is also tracking their contractor acknowledgement forms in ISNetworld. BMS has seen improvements upon their previous internal process of contractor pre-qualification by utilizing the RAVS verification process. Their extensive communication with contractors and internally within BMS has made ISNetworld a smooth transition.
