General Manager of Operations Chevron Gulf of Mexico Business Unit

On September 1st, 2009 Donald (Don) Stelling was appointed as General Manager of Operations, Gulf of Mexico Business unit.
Prior to this Don worked as Chevron’s Deputy Managing Director, Eurasia Strategic Business Unit, responsible for Chevron’s exploration and production activities in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkey.
Prior to working in Kazakhstan, Don worked in Chevron’s corporate headquarter office in San Ramon California as the General Manager of Operational Excellence which includes Health, Environment, Safety, Reliability and Efficiency.
Don was born and raised in Missoula Montana, USA. He received a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering in 1988 from the Montana College of Mineral Science and Technology.
Don joined Texaco in 1988 as a reservoir simulation engineer in Bakersfield, California. He later worked in the mid continent areas as a production engineer covering Oklahoma and part of Texas. He began working internationally in 1994 in the Partitioned Neutral Zone (PNZ) between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. He has held various positions of increasing responsibility including Petroleum Engineering Manager in the PNZ and Assistant to the President of Middle East and Eurasia Exploration and Production.
After the merger with Chevron Don became an Asset Development Manager in Bakersfield California and later moved to Maracaibo, Venezuela be the Operations Manager for Western Venezuela.
Don is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and has served on various advisory boards including the Montana Tech Petroleum Engineering Industry Advisory Board, Kern Environmental Education Program, Escuella Bella Vista School Board and was the Vice President of the Western Venezuela Oil Producers Association.
Don is married to Jennifer and together they have two children. He enjoys activities with his family including skiing, cycling, hunting, fishing and travelling.
